In Episode 46 of The Exponential Show, host Mayank Singh sits down with Jennifer (Jenn) Villalobos, Founder and CEO of ALYA, for a conversation on career reinvention, executive leadership, artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship, and building with purpose through different stages of life.

Jenn’s career has taken an unconventional path from journalism and storytelling into technology, digital transformation, executive leadership, and entrepreneurship. Her perspective offers a grounded look at how women can approach new career chapters with intention, manage the transition from corporate leadership to early-stage startup building, and leverage AI to solve complex personal health challenges.

From Journalism and Tech to Purpose-Driven Innovation

Jenn’s journey began in mass communication and journalism in Venezuela during the mid-1990s. Recognizing early on that media and technology were converging, she learned to code alongside her media studies. Her undergraduate thesis explored how internet platforms would disrupt traditional journalism, establishing a foundation that combined storytelling with technical execution.

After completing a master's degree in technology in Australia, Jenn navigated major personal, cultural, and career shifts. She went on to lead digital transformation initiatives for major organizations, including Google, Prudential, and Asset World Corporation. While building enterprise systems across Asia provided extensive leadership experience, her long-term vision was focused on building consumer-facing health solutions that create direct human impact.

A Philosophy of Strengths Over Skills

Throughout her leadership and parenting journey, Jenn developed a philosophy centered on prioritizing strengths over skills. In an environment where professionals are constantly pressured to acquire new certifications and technical skills, people often lose sight of what they naturally do well.

Jenn advocates for taking a step back to audit past experiences and identify tasks that bring genuine energy, joy, and strong execution. Rather than attempting to fix every skill gap, leaders and professionals build more resilient careers when they align their innate strengths with market opportunities.

Building ALYA: From Dumb Mirrors to Intimate Algorithms

That focus on strengths led Jenn to tackle a massive, underserved area in women's health: the menopause transition. By 2030, an estimated 1.2 billion women globally will experience perimenopause or menopause, yet many face unmanaged symptoms, workplace friction, and isolated health journeys.

Many existing health technologies rely on wearable devices that collect passive data, functioning as what Jenn calls "dumb mirrors" that track metrics without providing actionable guidance. With ALYA, Jenn is building an empathetic conversational platform designed to offer personalized roadmaps. By integrating medical databases with tailored guidance across nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle adaptations, ALYA empowers women with the knowledge needed to manage their physiological changes effectively.

Transitioning from Corporate Leadership to Early-Stage Builder

Stepping away from senior corporate roles to become an early-stage founder brought significant emotional and operational shifts. While enterprise executive positions offer structural safety, building a startup from the ground up requires navigating daily uncertainty.

Jenn manages this transition by maintaining daily focus, setting clear weekly deliverables, and drawing on her global network of advisors and peers. For enterprise leaders making the leap into entrepreneurship, success relies on pairing structured discipline with the flexibility to adapt based on real user feedback.

From Mother to Matriarch

A central theme of Jenn’s work is reframing how society views women as they age. Rather than treating hormonal transitions as a physiological decline, Jenn emphasizes that this stage represents a transition into leadership, wisdom, and power.

Her advice to young women leaders is to understand their physiological profiles early, track key health indicators, and incorporate strength training to build long-term physical resilience. By taking control of their health and remaining curious, women can prepare themselves to step confidently into new chapters of leadership.

This episode was shot at True Digital Park, Thailand’s most comprehensive landing spot for international businesses and individuals.

The conversation with Jennifer Villalobos demonstrates the impact of combining executive experience with deep personal conviction. Through ALYA, Jenn is showing how technology can move beyond basic data tracking to deliver empathetic, personalized solutions that support women through critical life transitions.
